Coach Education at Bays United FC

Bays United FC is committed to providing opportunities for our coaches to pursue ongoing training and development. This includes occasional in-house coaching workshops delivered by our Technical Directors, as well as official soccer coach certification courses following the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) curriculum.

U6-U11 Coaches Orientation - September

Each September, Bays United FC runs a 3-hour orientation workshop for our U6-U11 House League coaches. Led by U6-U11 Technical Director Darryl Hooker, coaches are guided through basic drills for training young players in fundamental soccer skills. As with our U6-U11 program itself, the approach is to have FUN even while learning sound technical skills.

NEXT WORKSHOP:  T.B.A. -- please watch this web page for updates on the time, date and location of our next coaches orientation in September 2008.

U6-U11 Weekly Coaching Sessions

Following from the initial U6-U11 coaches orientation in September, Darryl hosts a weekly drop-in coach training session at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre indoor artificial turf field.  Coaches are encouraged to come dressed to play and participate in demonstrations of drills and mini-games that are suitable for training young players effectively. As always, the approach is FUN and engaging, as much as it is educational and technically sound. Weekly sessions run on Tuesday evenings from September to January for one hour.

NEXT SESSION:  T.B.A. -- please watch this web page for schedule updates starting in September 2008.

CSA Certification Courses

Coaches who wish to pursue official certfication in soccer coaching may choose to take the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) certification courses. These courses generally span one weekend, and the course cost is paid by Bays United FC upon prior approval from the BUFC Coaching Committee. The CSA courses are hosted once or twice each year by youth soccer clubs in the Greater Victoria area, including Bays United FC, led by U12-U18 Technical Director Eddie Mukahanana.

NEXT COURSE:  T.B.A. -- please watch this web page for course schedule updates.  For a complete description of the courses, the sequence of certification levels, and how to register, please refer to our "Certification" web page.
