Referees
Referee Progam at Bays United FC
The purpose of the Referee Program is to provide the opportunity for young individuals to experience the challenges of being a game official, and to help promote the game of soccer.
It should be noted there are only a fixed number of spots available to interested individuals in any given year.
Players entering their U14 or U15 year are given the chance to enter the referee program and take the course to become Small-Sided Game Referees. Players from older age groups will be considered if there are spots available.
Ideally all teams at the U14 and U15 level should have players who are selected to become part of the referee program. It doesn’t matter if players are gold, silver, or bronze, skill at soccer is not important. The only thing that is important is attitude.
New referees are accepted into the program based on the following criteria:
- an interest in soccer
- can take on a challenge and like to run
- a willingness to learn
- have a commitment to be part of the referee team at Bays United FC
While there is a chance to make some money, that should not be the main motivation to become a soccer referee.
