Volunteers

An open invitation to all Bays volunteers and potential volunteers: (posted 22 Mar 09)

Please join the Board of Directors of Bays United Football Club for a fun evening of soccer (indoor), pizza and refreshments.  On Tuesday, March 31st, we have booked the Oak Bay Recreation Centre Indoor Turf for an hour (7-8pm) and the Sportsview Lounge for two hours (8-10pm) to provide all our members with an opportunity to be appreciated for past volunteering and to encourage new volunteers to step forward.  Come on out and have some fun supporting your club and learning about what exciting volunteer opportunities exist.

Remember, Bays runs on volunteers and the club needs you - please put on your cleats (or running shoes) and join us.

Why Volunteer? Because this is YOUR club!

Bays United is the largest soccer club on southern Vancouver Island, serving approximately 1,400 children and their families with almost 100 teams. It takes a lot of work to keep our volunteer organization going, so we always need more help!

Our club is powered by volunteers. Our player registration fees go mainly to field rental and equipment, and virtually everything else is done with pure sweat and devotion!  We have a registration officer, two paid club coaches who act as learning resources for our vast numbers of volunteer coaches, and the co-ordinator of referees who is paid an honorarium for organizing the referees for all of the games in U10-U18 each week.

All of the other jobs in the club are performed by volunteer parents and community supporters: coaches, managers, lines people, executive members, division co-ordinators,equipment co-ordinators, website managers and so on. The thousands of hours these people volunteer each year make the playing opportunities for our children possible, so think about what energy and talents you might be able to contribute.  You don't need to be a soccer pro; we will provide full training and support to every volunteer.  Please send us a message to put your name on the list of volunteers.

New Board Members Wanted

Bays United is governed by its own Board of Directors. Our directors are soccer parents like you who recognize that a club as big as ours needs ongoing direction and leadership. Each year, Board positions become vacant as Directors retire after their term of office. As a result, the club is always looking for more parents who have good judgment, organizational skills, and a commitment to supporting youth sport. New faces are especially welcome from the U6-U11 House League as we seek to build continuity in our club governance.

Some soccer knowledge is an asset, as well as a cooperative spirit for working in a board/committee setting. It's not necessarily a big commitment - meetings are once a month on a Wednesday evening, plus occasional ad hoc meetings and some special tasks. Meetings are well chaired by our President and do not go on late. It's an interesting and usually enjoyable volunteer job.

Bays runs on volunteers. While we celebrate the commitment of our coach volunteers (nearly 200 of them!), we also need Board members to keep the club running! So please step up. If you are interested in learning more, please call Gwyn Symmons (Past President) at 592-6062.

FAQ for December 2008: What is our club's Intra-Club Permit Policy?

Bays United follows the LISA policy. LISA allows teams in a club to bring up players from a lower division to play in league games by using an Intra-Club Permit. Intra-Club Permits cannot be used for Cup Play. The Intra-Club Permit is found on the LISA Website in the forms page. A maximum of 3 players are allowed to be permitted for any given game.
