Assessments

Purpose of U6-U11 Player Assessments

Bays United assesses the soccer skills of all registered U6-U11 players in September each year.  By running players through a series of stations (shooting, passing, sprinting, mini game), coaches are able to assess the relative abilities of all players and use this information to form balanced teams.  Players are not required to have previous soccer experience -- House League welcomes one and all!

By creating balanced teams, we ensure that players experience optimal development in their skills, as well as fun and fairness to encourage them to continue in soccer and sport.

Assessments in September

Assessments for U6 – U11 take place in September during the two weeks following Labour Day.

Important news for U10-U11 Coed House League

Players

New u10/u11 Coed Development Program

Starting in fall 2009, the Bays United FC Coaching Committee recommended that the u10 and u11 Coed age groups be combined and that two new divisions be created within this age group.

Process

Both age groups would be assessed separately as per usual and then the more experienced players from each group would be grouped together (about 50 per cent of each group) and the less experienced placed together to create two new divisions. This program is currently being used in Vancouver and has met with excellent success.

Benefits

U10 and u11 are developmentally at the same stage (physical, mental, emotional) and play together in many other sports (e.g. hockey and lacrosse). The Long-Term Player Development model (LTPD) as outlined by the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) describes this age range as sharing the same developmental goals in terms of skill acquisition and physical training (called the "learning to train" stage).

Less experienced players will touch the ball more, experience more success, improve faster and feel motivated to continue playing.

More experienced players will have a more competitive environment to challenge them and be better prepared for the u12 streaming of gold and silver teams.

Progress and Leadership

This realignment is a progressive step to promote continued interest and development of Bays United FC players and Bays United will be the first soccer club in Victoria to implement an innovative format that is already proven successful in Vancouver-area clubs.

FAQ for December 2008: What is our club's Intra-Club Permit Policy?

Bays United follows the LISA policy. LISA allows teams in a club to bring up players from a lower division to play in league games by using an Intra-Club Permit. Intra-Club Permits cannot be used for Cup Play. The Intra-Club Permit is found on the LISA Website in the forms page. A maximum of 3 players are allowed to be permitted for any given game.
